GE Healthcare develops high
definition MRI system.
GE Healthcare announced that it has developed the world’s
first high definition magnetic resonance (HDMR) system. This
breakthrough technology was launched at the Radiological
Society of North America’s 90th Scientific Assembly and
Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.
HDMR will, for the first time, provide physicians with
unprecedented image clarity in cases where patients are
difficult to image due to movement, including Parkinson’s
patients who suffer from uncontrollable patient motion and
including children who do not respond to sedation.
This new GE technology dramatically improves MR imaging
speed and quality, allowing clinicians to obtain vast
amounts of data in a short time and perform MR studies that
otherwise would be compromised.
According to recent studies, 25 to 30 percent of all head MR
studies are compromised by some amount of patient movement,
which can impact patient diagnosis. However, GE’s exclusive HDMR technology, PROPELLER, provides uncompromised images of
the brain despite patient motion.
This new technology, available on GE Signa 1.5T and 3.0T MR systems,
enables massively simultaneous imaging in multiple channels
in increments of 16. HDMR features a unique balanced
acquisition architecture, with individual receive channels
connected to dedicated reconstruction engines.
GE’s exclusive EXCITE technology has already enabled three
exclusive, targeted MR applications with meaningful clinical
benefits: VIBRANT for bilateral breast imaging in a single
exam; TRICKS for MR angiography of the legs; and PROPELLER
for high-quality brain imaging that is extremely resistant
to motion artifacts. EXCITE HD brings each of these new
applications info high definition.
GE Healthcare is a $14 billion unit of General
Electric Company (NYSE: GE) that is headquartered in the
United Kingdom. A MR production facility is located in
Florence, SC.

Varian releases the VK 7030
Dissolution Tester with Direct Vessel Heating (DVH).
Varian expanded its V-Series line of dissolution testers
by introducing the VK 7030 with patented Direct Vessel
Heating (DVH), designed to improve productivity, efficiency
and automation for pharmaceutical laboratories.
Unlike traditional dissolution testers that immerse
vessels in water to regulate temperature, the new VK 7030
heats its patented vessels directly to raise the temperature
inside. The patented Direct Vessel Heating (DVH)
technology provides faster heat up of dissolution media,
eliminates tedious chores associated with water bath
draining and cleaning and alleviates algae build up.
The Auto Temp in-vessel temperature monitoring system on the
VK 7030 automatically measures and records individual vessel
temperatures. Additionally, independent cannulas can be
lowered individually or in unison and allow programmed
staggered drops and sampling without disrupting vessel
hydrodynamics while ensuring accurate sampling position.
Varian,
Inc.'s dissolution product line is a world leader in
dissolution testing, providing instrumentation and solutions
that improve the way a pharmaceutical company works.
Varian's Dissolution Testing Group is located in Cary, NC.
